3 things to do at the University of New Mexico

1. go exploring

Amazing architecture combined with the beautiful backdrop of Albuquerque’s lovely scenery creates the ideal setting for a day of adventure.  The University of New Mexico is filled with all kinds of things to do and see.  Admire the striking buildings found here, such as Hodgin Hall, the oldest building on campus.  Originally constructed in 1892, the University’s first building was renovated in the early 1900’s and now displays the classic Pueblo Revival style, which is seen all around the state of New Mexico.  Zimmerman Library is filled with everything from technical books to novels, murals and local art, as well as the latest in university technology. History buffs may want to spend some time in the Center for Southwest Research, a great resource for out-of-print books, documents, historic photographs and research materials on Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the Southwest.

2. treat yourself to an amazing meal

If you start to get hungry during your journey through the campus of the University of New Mexico, fill up at a fantastic nearby restaurant.  The Frontier Restaurant, located on Central Avenue across from UNM, prepares some of the most delectable dishes you’ve ever tasted.  This local favorite has been around since 1971, serving classic Albuquerque cuisine, like green chile cheeseburgers, burritos, homemade tortillas, and their famous Frontier cinnamon roll.  Their extensive menu has all kinds of options that are guaranteed to satisfy even the hungriest appetite.

3. enjoy fun activities

You never know what you might discover at the University of New Mexico campus.  Live bands perform under large shade trees on the quad during an extensive lunch break Take a stroll around the duck pond and waterfall to watch these feathered friends swim and play.  If you’re looking to get a little exercise, stop by Johnson Field. This is the perfect spot to walk the track around the field, throw a frisbee, kick a soccer ball, or watch a pickup game of football or lacrosse.  Popejoy Hall, a wonderful performance venue, is also located on this campus, providing the surrounding community with traveling Broadway shows, high-quality concerts and seasonal music festivals.  Whether you want to laugh at the antics of comedians or attend your favorite musical, you’ll find the perfect show at this performing arts center.  Last but not least, don’t forget to stock up on some Lobo gear or athletic wear at the UNM Bookstore to commemorate your trip!
